These standards have been developed by the State of Virginia to set minimum benchmarks for the teaching of academic subjects.
- Virginia Standards of Learning website - This page lists not only the SOLs also scope and sequence, supplemental resources and links to electronic practice assessment tests.

- Virginia Standards of Accreditation - These Standards were adopted in July 2000 but are the most recent posted. To find pertinent library references, use the binoculars and search for the term "library."
These standards have been developed by the American Library Association and the Association for Educational Communication and Technology to set benchmarks for teaching and developing information literacy skills.
Into the future, the Partnership for the 21st Century has created a list of skills that should be mastered. These skills heavily depend on literacy proficiency.
